Eel is one of the most consistently effective of all freshwater fish baits, thanks in no small part to them being a major part of the diet of pike and other predatory fish in many venues up and down the country. Extremely tough, it is not unusual to catch several fish on the same eel bait, making them fantastic value for money.

Pollan can be used as you would other coarse fish. Because of their size Bait Box recommend using a size 4 Pike Pro twin-treble trace. Because they are naturally buoyant pollan are best fished popped-up on a ledger rig. Alternatively use a needle to puncture the swimbladder and squeeze out some of the air to make a slow sinking bait. 2-3 per pack.

A major part of the diet of pike in most venues, it is no wonder that roach are such a popular bait with predator anglers. Bait Box freeze their roach immediately to keep them in super-fresh condition.
Naturally quite buoyant Bait Box recommend testing roach in the margins before casting out to ensure that they sink. If they float simply pierce the swimbladder with a baiting needle and squeeze out the air until the bait just sinks. A slow sinking presentation really is ideal and will ensure that the bait sits on top of any weed and is very easy for the pike to pick up. 3 per pack.

Trout have quite a tough and dense body, making them ideal for long range fishing and repeated casting. This makes them ideal for trotting baits in rivers and for fishing sink and draw style, as well as ledgering and float fishing in stillwaters.
Trout are also a favourite bait to use under a drifter float, because their bold outline makes them very visible to any pike laying up underneath, and their tough skin means they take repeated retrieves from long range better than most baits.

Lamprey have made a huge impact over the last few years and have accounted for a lot of fish. They are not just a pike bait either, some big zander and catfish have also fallen to this bait.
Lamprey are members of some of the extremely primitive jaw-less' fishes, that feed by sucking the blood from other fish. They contain a very large amount of blood that simply oozes out of a cut bait!
Fished either on the bottom or popped-up using Bait Poppers, lamprey are eel shaped and have a very tough skin, so they can take regular recasting and it is not unusual to catch several fish on the same bait.

Measuring approximately 4ins in length, sprats are a great alternative to larger deadbaits and are particularly useful when pike and zander are feeding on small fish. Because of their smaller size, sprats are also ideal for long range fishing. Very oily, and with a silver sheen. Sprats are very visible and can be easily flavoured and dyed.
Sprats are very effective when float fished, and are a great bait to use when trotting in rivers, or on a float paternoster rig in stillwaters. Because of their smaller size they are best used with either a single or twin treble trace fitted with size 8 hooks. 3-4 per pack.
